"Inaugural Strong Fathers Make Strong Families" Resource Fair

Join us on Wednesday, June 20th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Northside Baptist Church, 1239 East Berkeley Street, Durham, NC 27705

The U.S. economy spends approximately $55 billion dollars annually as a result of childhood exposure to domestic violence and broken homes and Pathways to Change hopes to do its part to chip away at the cost in its community.  Building on the success of our “Strong Fathers” program, which has graduated over 100 hundred dads who successfully completed the 20-week program since its inception, current and graduate Strong Fathers participants will share about the important role they play in the family, particularly during a time when the allure of gang life (and the desire for belongingness) in Durham can often lead kids astray.  Strong Fathers will also distribute to school-age kids from the surrounding community summer survival kits filled with books and other goodies to minimize what is commonly referred to as the “summer slide.”

The Strong Fathers Make Strong Families fair will feature the resources of community partners, such as El Centro Hispano, Coastal Horizons, Alliance Behavioral Health, and the Small Business Center at Durham Technical Community College to name just some.  Families will enjoy an informative listening session, light fare, refreshments and have an opportunity to visit partner booths to learn more about vital resources, such as workforce readiness, housing resources, visit the mobile health clinic, healthy eating on a budget, small business start-ups, parenting classes and much more.  The event marks the Father’s Day holiday celebrated on the third Sunday of June.

Be our guest and join us for an information- and fun-filled event with complimentary "swag" bags for all kids, food and refreshments.  This event is free and open to the public.

This program was made possible with support from the Community Care Fund grant-making program, which is funded by Duke’s Doing Good in the Neighborhood employee giving campaign and coordinated by Duke University’s Office of Durham and Regional Affairs.

Support Pathways to Change

We love to support our clients as they work to make positive changes in their lives. Please consider supporting us so we can extend our services to greater numbers of clients.

Pathways to Change is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, so your donation is tax deductible. All donations go toward increasing quality and accessibility of our programs for those who otherwise might not be able to participate. Click the donate button below to make a secure contribution.

In addition to financial donations, we would also be grateful for any of the following contributions:

  • Donated copies -- Does your office/business have a copier? We provide a participant workbook to all of our Strong Fathers participants. Consider making copies of this approximately 50-page document to help us
  • Meals -- Traditionally, the Strong Fathers program has opened its groups with a shared meal. As we've had to tighten our budget, this important component of our program has gone by the wayside. If you, your church group, or civic organization might be interested in preparing or purchasing a meal, please let us know!
  • Office supplies -- We are especially in need of 3-ring binders, copy paper, and pens.
